Wehawken
Washington, DC
This house was built for a well-known developer of luxury homes in the Maryland suburbs of DC. As with all in-fill development of this type, a key concern was how to fit a new and substantially larger home into a neighborhood made up mainly of smaller, older homes. The careful use of a traditional architectural language and familiar materials served to give the house an 'older' feel while the use of the gambrel roof form allowed a full second floor to be accommodated within a relatively low structure.
